What Are the 5 Types of Fevers?

Fevers can be challenging to categorize because they have so many distinct causes, and the categories aren’t usually very helpful. Fevers are often quantified by how long they last and how hot they make you feel. Five primary forms of fever have been classified by doctors, including:

Intermittent fever:
Over the course of the day, this fever fluctuates between baselines of normal temperatures and fever levels.

Remittent fever:
Even though this sort of fever may come and go and fluctuate in temperature, it never completely returns to normal.

Cyclical recurrent fevers or periodic fevers:
These are recurrences of fever which last from a few days to a few weeks and are separated by symptom free intervals.  This pattern of fever can be caused by recurrent infection, malignancy or non-infectious inflammatory diseases.

Continuous fever:
This is a continuous fever with little to no variation in temperature throughout the day, sometimes known as a “sustained” fever.

Relapsing:
After several days or weeks of normal temperatures, this type of intermittent fever flares up once more. Infections like malaria and animal bites frequently cause this sort of fever.

For a variety of reasons, our body will raise its temperature. Infections are among some of the most prevalent problems. To combat viruses or germs in your body, your body will increase your body temperature. Colds, the flu, gastroenteritis, or ear, skin, throat, or bladder infections are
included in this.

When to visit the doctor ?
You must call your doctor right away if you have a fever that is higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit. especially if, in addition to your high temperature, you also have any of the following symptoms – Seizure, Loss of consciousness, Confusion, Stiff neck, Trouble breathing, Severe body pain, Swelling or inflammation of body parts, Pain when urinating and Persistent headache. Your doctor will determine the proper treatment plan for you and try to diagnose the underlying cause of your fever. This is a continuous fever with little to no variation in temperature throughout the day, sometimes known as a “sustained” fever.
